Jennifer Rhodes’ career spans four decades. Her first Hollywood job was as Tanea, a Native American girl in the highly-acclaimed HIGH CHAPPARAL, starring Cameron Mitchell.
Her second role was as another Native American in the film, LAWMAN, starring Burt Lancaster. (“I had high cheekbones, what can I say?”) Her third role was a small part as Robert Wagner’s secretary in the Paul Newman, William Holden blockbuster, TOWERING INFERNO. “I left work early and missed the fire”.
From Rosiclare, Illinois, Jennifer headed for the Drama Department at Southern Illinois University where after touring a semester playing “Cherie” in BUS STOP, she was hooked and caught a Greyhound Bus to New York City where she studied acting at the Herbert Berghof Studio. She performed Off-Broadway, toured with the Stanley Wolff Players in the New York area, and did two seasons of Summer Stock at the Enchanted Hills Playhouse in Indiana, and the Paul Bunyon Playhouse in Minnesota.
Jennifer married Jordan Rhodes and later moved to Los Angeles (kicking and screaming)…”But now it’s my home, I love it and still have fond memories of New York……..I still have fond memories of my marriage as well.”
In features, Jennifer is best known for her role as Winona Ryder’s mom in the cult film, HEATHERS, wherein upon discovering her daughter has hanged herself, she exclaims, “Oh, I should have let you take that job at the mall.”
In television, she has most recently played Penny Halliwell, the girls’ beloved grande dame witch “Grams” for eight years on CHARMED. “What a hoot that was!”
A few Guest Star television roles include ER, THIRD ROCK FROM THE SUN, FRIENDS, ALLY MCBEAL, THE LARRY SANDERS’ SHOW, MURPHY BROWN, DESIGNING WOMEN, QUANTUM LEAP, L.A. LAW, THE DISTRICT, EQUAL JUSTICE and FAME.
Jennifer resides in Los Angeles with Willy, Fletcher, Wilson and Zoey.
